Sweetest Kill (Sweetest Kill Series Book 1) Page 5

  “You better.” I giggle

Now it’s time to go find out what the hell Ryan needs to tell me.

  Chapter Twelve

I get back to my house just as Ryan is pulling up

“Perfect timing.” He announces getting out of his large black intimidating car

“Your car reminds me of something the President of the United States would be chauffeured around in.” I laugh

He looks back at his car and then at me “You really can never be too safe.”

  Weirdo

We walk through the entrance and into my apartment. We sit at the table while we eat the Chinese food that Ryan brought with him. We don’t talk about Dean, at least not whatever it is that Ryan needs to tell me about him. We talk about when they were kids. They didn’t get along all the time, Ryan and Dean don’t have the same mother, but they do have the same father.

Ryan is protective of Dean, I can kind of see that. It makes me laugh though because while Ryan is really good looking in many ways, he’s half the size of Dean who at times looks as though he could be a body builder if he really wanted to be. Dean had a male God look to him almost. He was gorgeous. Ryan was good looking, if I had met him and not Dean I would have gone for him. But the two men were worlds apart. In every way possible

Ryan tells me about his nightclub. It’s one of the nicest in the entire city. Ryan tells me he will put me on the list, as well as Alexis. Inviting us to visit whenever we feel like it.

As soon as I cleaned up our plates from dinner and washed the table I noticed Ryan was texting on his cell phone

“So what did you need to talk to me about?” I ask

“I was just texting Dean.” He replies

That’s nice. He hadn’t text me, I picked up my phone just to make sure. Nope, nothing

“So my brother… Are you serious about him?”

  “I think so.”

“You need to do a lot better than think when it comes to Dean, you are his first relationship. I need to know are you going to stick with him or what? He doesn’t have room for distractions.”

  What the fuck?

“The way I feel about Dean has been explained to him, why the hell would he have you come at me to ask this?”

“He didn’t, but I need to know where you are at with this whole thing.” Ryan replies, his voice is starting to bother me “Dean isn’t coming back for a few weeks.”

“Oh, wow.” Is all I can manage “and he couldn’t tell me this himself?”

  “No.”

“Okay, well at least one of us is serious about it. Thanks for dinner Ryan.”

“Don’t you want to know why I needed to talk to you?”

“That’s not it? By all means lay the rest out there.” I am getting annoyed.

“He’ll be back in three weeks. But you two can’t be public.”

What the hell “What do you mean public Ryan, seriously spit your shit out.”

Ryan just laughs “I mean, you can’t go out on dates and let anyone know you are dating. Not yet. Dean’s job... You have to keep the fact that you exist a secret for a while.”

  “Why?” I ask

“I can’t tell you, Dean asked me not to. He got so wrapped up with you last night he didn’t get a chance to tell you what the two of you being together met. It could… mess things up a bit in a few areas so we need you to be quiet about it for a while.”

“The more you talk Ryan, the easier that is going to be. No worries I won’t tell anyone Dean and I are even friends.”

Ryan frowns “Dean and I are new at having girls as complications, don’t get offended.”

“Complications? Yeah, I’m not offended at all.”

“He’s really into you, you just need to respect what he does and stay clear for a bit.”

  “Okay.” Is all I say

“I have to get going, I will talk to you later?” he asks

  “I guess.”

He frowns before he heads to the door “I think he loves you.” He barely whispers

I don’t respond. My head hurts. Dean always goes out of time for a few days, never a few weeks. Now I am being told that whatever it is he does for a living, means that I have to be his secret. I am not feeling very good about it all. He can’t tell me what he does, he can’t tell anyone he is with me. What the hell is the point?

When Ryan walks through the door, the tears start falling down my face. I don’t know why I am crying. It’s not like Dean is dumping me. But Dean felt like he couldn’t tell me all of this on his own. Which bothered me.

I suck whatever emotions I am feeling up, and head to my office next to Joss’s room to work on the photos I shot today.

I leave my phone on the kitchen table

For two weeks I don’t hear from him.

I go to my appointment with Doctor Bailey, she takes several vials of blood, and she tests me for everything, and tells me I will get the results in a week or two. Alexis was the one holding my hand while I was poked and prodded

Week three I still don’t hear from him. Not a text, not a call not an email.

Flowers come. Yellow and pink tulips that I told him were my favorite. They come every day. Never with a card.

I’m trying to be patient. I didn’t ever want to be one of those girls who needed to see or hear from her boyfriend every day. But this is too much. This is he has a secret life that I know nothing about. And now he isn’t even talking to me.

My heart hurts and it’s a little hard not to take this personal.

Especially when I see Stella coming out of his apartment one day.

  Chapter Thirteen

I was coming out to check my mail. I was waiting on the check for the huge party I did a few days before, another 1500 in the bank. Jaxon was pulling in some serious paying customers for me, and word was starting to spread about my talents. It felt nice to be making so much money doing something I loved so much.

I grab the stack of mail off the end table in the entry way. Not the most secure mail system, but it was a lot less tacky than those metal mailboxes you see in walls of apartment buildings. We each had a mail box outside, but the mailman would bring the mail here when it was raining, or hot... Or he was just feeling nice.

I’m not really paying attention, looking down at the mail flyers offering grocery store savings and promotions to new stores with grand openings

  Suddenly I crash into someone

“Shit.” I hiss, my mail falling to the ground. I bend over quickly to pick it up and look at who I ran into

It’s Stella “I am so sorry.” She says “I wasn’t pay attention, I was trying to stuff everything into this bag, I didn’t even hear you out here.”

“It’s okay.” I look down at the black duffle bag she has, she’s stuffing a familiar pair of sweat pants down inside.

I swallow before speaking “Is Dean back?”

She eyes me warily before answering “do you two know each other?”

“Um yeah, I mean we are neighbors he was going to help me with my car, it’s no big deal forget I asked.”

She stops me “I didn’t realize you were friends.” She reaches out her hand “I’m Stella.”

I consider not taking her hand. Clearly something is not right

I do it anyway “I’m Olivia.”

I watch as Stella’s eyes grow wide, like she knows who I am

She gently shakes her head, ignoring whatever her previous issue was “I’m Deans….” Suddenly her phone rings

  “Hello?” She answers

“Yeah Babe, I am here now. I just picked up a few outfits to get you through…. Yes… Well I know you told me to wait until night, but I was in the area… Yeah I am meeting your neighbor now…. No I didn’t say anything… I’m sorry I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to….Okay.”

  She hangs up

“He’s so moody sometimes.” She laughs lightly

I smile, feeling uncomfortable “Is he… Um coming back anytime soon?”

She smiles “He’s staying at my place for a bit, but I am sure he will be back in a week or two.”

  “Oh, Ok.”

I feel sick. Like really sick

“Well it was nice meeting you.” I lie

“You as well. I will tell Dean you said hello.”

I look at her “Actually, could you not. I mean we don’t really know each other. It’s not a big deal.”

“Okay. Well I will see you.” She says, walking to the entry way door.

I rush through my front door, locking it behind me. I run to the bathroom right before I throw up.

I fall asleep on the bathroom floor. I don’t know if I caught a bug or it is stress but I couldn’t stop throwing up.

I wake up to the sound of my phone ringing in the kitchen where I left it.

I pick it up, it’s Dean. I hit ignore.

  He texts:

  D: Answer your phone

  Me: Who is she?

  D: Answer your phone

Me: I said who is she?

  D: I can’t tell you

Me: Then I can’t answer you

  D: Just answer me

  Me: WHO is she?

  D: She’s my wife

  Chapter Fourteen

  Dean never stops calling me.

I have over 200 missed calls in the last 4 days since I last texted with him.

When he told me that Stella was his wife.

  It was a blow.

It wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I thought she might be another girlfriend, or some weird thing, but married? No.

It is another sign of me not knowing what the hell I am doing.

Alexis comes over every day to check on me.

She works a lot though, so it’s really hard for us to hang out.

Ryan calls a few times to see how I am doing. I tell him I am fine, I tell him that I will be okay. I tell him not to worry.

Because I know the only reason he is calling me, is because I won’t answer Dean.

He doesn’t try and make it better.

  He couldn’t.

Dean, the first man I ever fall in love with is married.

We really can’t just ignore that.

  It’s done and over with.

Dean and I are done and over with.

Not that we were ever anything to begin with. I was a joke to him. An easy lay.

  Whatever.

  Chapter Fifteen

  A week goes by.

Alexis and I decided to get dressed up and head out to Ryan’s club.

Probably not the smartest choice I have ever made, but Alexis insists that I need a night out, to forget everything

I let her chose my outfit. She brings me by this short little black dress that is practically see through

I try to tell her it’s not my style but she shoots me a “don’t fucking go there.” Look and I put the dress on

With a pair of matching 6 inch heels, and my hair and makeup done we get ready to head out

I didn’t bother texting Ryan to tell him we were going. He told me before that he would add Lexi and I to the guest list so that we could get in any time we wanted to, without waiting in line.

I started to think that maybe that was before his brother and I broke up.

I start to feel nervous when we pull up to the club

We walk to the bouncer, a man who is covered head to toe in black, who looks pretty damn mean.

I give him our names and he searches for them on his IPad

“You’re good.” He nods with a smile

  No ID’s requested nothing.

Alexis is 21, so she doesn’t have to worry about that stuff, but I normally do. I am not a heavy drinker by any means. In fact other than wine here and there I don’t like to drink at all

  Tonight I might change that

We walk into the club and notice there are 3 huge areas. The dance floor is the largest on the bottom

Two of the other rooms are set upstairs and seem closed off

The bar takes up the entire left side of the dance floor. It’s beautiful. Very well kept.

Not that you could expect anything less from someone like Ryan

Alexis and I walk to the bar first.

She orders a shot, I decide to try a little rum and coke

  Alexis is wild.

In general it’s just her personality, she’s very flirty. She’s a lot of fun but I haven’t really been able to let loose in so long it feels a little odd

I let her drag me onto the dance floor.

Some upbeat dance remix is playing

It doesn’t take long for the alcohol to take over both of our systems and suddenly all of my inhibitions are thrown right out the window

We get asked to dance a lot, which we both gladly agree too

One guy starts to get a little touchy, I want to tell him to stop but I keep thinking about Dean and I want to erase all of those feelings and touches from my system

We have been dancing for several moments when I hear a loud noise behind me and feel the guy I was dancing with being pulled away.

I turn suddenly and see Dean.

His face is bright red, veins popping out of his neck and on the side of his forehead. He grabs the guy I was dancing with and pulls him towards a hall way

I need to follow them, I don’t know why but I can’t let him get beat up because Dean is being crazy

Dean shoves the guy up against the wall

“Do you know who the fuck I am?” he asks the guy, spit flying out if his mouth onto the guys face as he screams the words

The guy looks scared shitless “ye…yes. You’re Dean Corvus.”

Dean doesn’t look impressed that the guy knows “so you know what the fuck that means right?”

  “Yes” the guy whispers

“Good. So I suggest you stay the fuck away from her and find someone else to dance with.” He gives the guy a rough shove towards the entry way. The man trips over his own feet from the force of the push and stumbles back onto the dance floor

I glare at Dean, his arms are now crossed across his middle. His legs are shoulder width apart. He’s dressed in an expensive looking suit. But the suit does nothing to wipe the look of murder from his face

“What the fuck is your problem?” I ask

  He stands there. Motionless. Silent

“Oh fuck you.” I turn to storm off. I don’t get more than a foot away when he grabs my arm and roughly yanks me back toward him.

Now I am the one shoved up against the wall, where moments earlier my innocent dance partner was standing

“Did you like that?” Dean asks, his voice is harsh. It isn’t the voice of the guy I have spoken to a million times before

“What you roughing up a guy I was dancing with. No.”

He laughs, with anything but humor “No, Olivia I mean did you like having his hands all over you?”

“I did actually, he was doing a really good job of making me feel good. I figured he and I could fuck around and I would forget I ever met you.”

It’s not a smart choice of words I realize, because Dean lets out a murderous roar and slams the wall by my head

Suddenly he has the hem of my dress lifted up above my hips

I feel the pinch of my panties being ripped off of me in one fluid motion

I open my mouth to say something, to protest but he’s not paying attention

With one hand he keeps both of my arms pinned above my head by my wrists

With the other hand, he reaches between us and unzips his suit

“Stop Dean.” I yell. At least I wanted to yell.

“Come on Olivia, this is what you wanted right, this will make you feel good. A guy fucking you like a whore. Isn’t that why you are dressed like that, out here trying to forget me? Let me show you how easy that is.”

He enters me, it’s rough and it’s cruel.

He starts his punishing thrust in and out of me. I try so hard to fight it, but it feels
so good.

I still love him. He still turns me on. He knows this

  I can’t help but moan

“God I fucking love that sound.” He groans

He buries his face into my neck, sucking and biting as he goes. Never once kissing me.

  Not like he normally does.

I am clawing at his neck, his back beneath his dress shirt, just trying to hold on

His hand that was once holding my wrists pinned, is now wrapped in my hair, pulling my head back

His thrusts become angrier, he’s saying something but I can’t fully hear him over the music

Suddenly I look up, and standing in the door way is Ashley and Stella.

What the fuck are they doing together?

I try to yell to Dean but he’s thrusting and moaning so loudly he can’t hear me over himself and the music.

  He comes

He leans back to look at my face, a smile pulls at his lips

“How was that baby? Do you feel better?”

Tears start falling down my face, Deans face twists up in confusion

I can feel his come dripping down my leg. I pull my dress down as I make my way towards where Stella and Ashley are standing. Stella looks pissed, Ashley looks like she wants to kill me

“Are you kidding me Dean?” Ashley demands

  She knows him?

“How do you two know one another?”

  She ignores my question

I look back at Dean whose jaw is clenched, his hands are formed into fists at his side

  “I hired him.” Ashley sneers

I look back at Dean but he says nothing

“For what? Are you like a male escort or something?” I scoff looking at Dean to say something. Anything.

I hear Ashley laughing manically. Causing fear to ripple through me

“No you dumb bitch. I hired him to fucking kill you. He’s a hit man.”

I fall back a step. Feeling my heart break into a million pieces. It was all a lie. He was going to kill me?

I feel his large arms grab me. I hear him whisper loving words in my ear, telling me to let him explain, how much I mean to him, telling me to try and understand. Asking for my trust.

  Trust?

I need to tell him to let go of me.

To stay the hell away from me
